LAN Events reporting issues around Venues.

Two new LAN events that were planning to be operational in 2012 have both shut down attempts to start new LAN’s after problems with securing suitable Venues.

ReBoot LAN in Dunedin has pulled the plug after attempts for several months to secure a suitable venue ended in the plug being pulled. Now a New largescale LAN event in Wellington has pulled the idea after negotiations fell through for the use of a major venue in Wellington.

Both events have stated that Venues with suitable power, Internet and Costings are hard to find, with ReBoot surveying more than 20 venues before deciding to pull the plug.

The Wellington based event which hadn’t even thought up a name, said that negoiations had started with a Wellington based venue but had broken down after the venue became concerned about Power consumption and security. The Event Organizer, James has said they will shelve the idea until later in the year once the 2012 University year is complete.

Are suitable venues becoming harder to find?

New Plymouth: Modster PC and Decanta Pub LAN.

Modster PC and Decanta Pub LAN.

We have a day LAN planned for Sunday the 27th November. Venue is the Decanta Tapas Bar.
The back bar will be open for light snacks and refreshments making this an R18 event. We will be using 2 switches on the day, 1 dedicated for BF3 and will only be hosting BF3 all day. Second switch can be used for whatever, so we want some suggestions for games you want running on that one.
There is a $10.00 charge for each PC connected to the network to help cover bar staff wages. There are limited seats to this event so if you want to be there let us know soon. You can get your ticket in the shop or buy online. For full details check out our link: http://www.modster-pc.co.nz/shop/product_info.php?products_id=4553

LANFest Tauranga back on the ball!

From their website: http://www.lanfest.co.nz

Yes you heard it right, the A-team of LAN organisers is back in the house with more goodies and shiny toys than a department store on Christmas to bring you the very best LAN Tauranga has to offer.

Over the next little while we’ll be updating you with all the new bits about LANfest (you’ll hardly recognise us!), we’ve had 3 years off from running LANs and in our downtime we’ve come up with some great plans and new ideas we hope you’ll like. We’ve also got some new sponsors we would like to introduce you to once we get our terms sorted out.

Big apologies to our faithful LANfest gamers who have been with us since the start but you get busy ya-know? And it gets difficult when more than half your staff no longer live in Tauranga. But we’re going to make it right and make it up to you and show we still care with this epic all day (virtual) killing fest on the 10th of December.

So now is the time, get a crue together and start planning and honing your 1337 skillz in [insert-FPS-title-here] so you can pwn those n00bz… or something.

Always happy to hear your feedback on what you’d love to see at LANfest 2011 so reply to this forum thread!

Cheers,
gizmoguy

Open Question to EA and DICE

Greetings,

I’ve been a Battlefield fan for years, but of late the direction of Battlefield has confused me.

Both Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 were huge games in the LAN Gaming/Event community, with some LAN’s running multiple BF2 servers for attendee’s to use.

But with the arrival of BC2 and now BF3 you have done away with Dedicated Server files and therefore snubbed the LAN Gaming/Event community, Could you please explain why this was done and why LAN Event Admins and organizers can no longer get access to these files?

In New Zealand alot of LAN events don’t have large scale Internet connections, especially the small LAN events, because of two main reasons, the cost and venue location. So getting people to connect from a LAN to a gameserver hosted online is pointless and extremely expensive.

Can you please explain this?
